Staying Safe While Driving Through Tornado Season in Central PA

With tornado warnings on the rise in Central Pennsylvania, at Shepherd’s Driver Consulting, we want to make sure our local community stays safe on the roads during tornado season.

While we can’t control the weather, we can control how we react to it. Here are some tips so you can drive defensively when twisters threaten:

● Don’t panic, but don’t ignore warnings either. If you hear a tornado siren or get an emergency alert while driving, safely pull over and seek shelter.
● Watch the skies. If they start turning dark green or you see a funnel forming – take it as a sign to get to safety fast.
● Avoid highways and bridges which may leave you exposed. Stick to lower roads that offer more options for shelter.
● Open fields and parking lots are danger zones. Seek solid shelter like a ditch, ravine, or sturdy building.
● If debris starts flying, pull over and cover-up. Protect yourself from broken glass and other projectiles.
● After the twister passes, watch for downed trees, power lines, and damaged roads. Proceed carefully.

The key is staying alert, having an emergency plan, and not taking unnecessary risks in dangerous conditions. We care about our community, so we want everyone getting to where they need to go safely this tornado season.

Let us at Shepherd’s Driver Consulting know if you have any other weather-related driving concerns.

We’re always happy to help new drivers gain confidence and skill for PA roads and conditions.

Stay safe out there!
